I have been interested in starting a bullet journal for nearly six months now, mainly because no planner I have ever had has all the components I desire. So this September I started my bullet journal, and since have figured out what stationery I find necessary to make mine the way I want. Also little disclaimer, I wish I could justify spending my student loan on all the amazing fineliners out there, but unfortunately I am on a smaller budget.
I love the BIC Intensity pens to write down my plans. This year I have three modules each semester, so have colour coded each, and also use a colour for personal stuff. I find colour coding my classes to help me distinguish what I have to do easily, and it also makes it pretty which in my mind is a bonus.
As far as other coloured fineliners go, I have used these when drawing out some of my designs and for some of my doodles. These particular ones were super cheap, I think they were from Poundworld,
or a similar shop to that. So far I haven't done a major theme in my bullet journal because I want to get a little more into it before doing so, so then I can see what spreads I like. But I definitely think adding colours helps, and definitely motivates me to use it and stay organised.
I also love adding colour with some generic coloured pens, these are also really good because they don't bleed through my pages as they are ball point pens.
I would love to own some of the Zebra Mildliners, especially the pastel ones, but they are quite expensive to buy as a student, especially when I have only just started with my bullet journal. However, I have found that the Stabilo pastel highlighters work really well in mine, especially for my trackers and for my numbers on my monthly calendar.
The last few things I love to use, I mainly use as decoration, and to make certain areas stand out more than others on a spread. Patterned paper or card can help make a simple spread a little more interesting, and can also help with a theme occasionally when I don't have lots of time to doodle.
I picked up these planner stickers at Poundworld, and the washi tapes from Primark. Both things help add details to my spreads, and the stickers can help create boxes and shapes that can help making quick spreads. These aren't completely essential, but I think they are great for when you are in a rush trying to set up your bullet journal for the next week/month.
I would love to get more inspiration for my bullet journal, so if you have any posts/ photos on yours, send them my way!
