When first starting blogging, or when you want to improve your photography, I think it can be hard trying to think of blog props to use. And lets face it, lots of us don't have loads of money to spend on things to be in our photographs. So today I thought I'd share what blog props I have picked up over the past year, as well as talking about making the most out of what you already have.
One of the most common things in the blogging world is backgrounds, in particularly the classic marble one. But lets be real, the chances of you actually having a marble kitchen counter is slim, so here begins the bargain hunting of backgrounds. I know a lot of people buy self-adhesive marble vinyl from Amazon, but I actually found my marble and wooden backgrounds, in the photos above, from Poundland of all places!
These fake flowers were also from Poundland, and I found the marble and rose gold candles from Home Bargains for a few pounds. And even when not used as blog props, they make your room look incredibly cute. Which in my opinion is a win-win situation!
Even if you have no money to spend on blog props, I think the main thing to remember is that you probably have so much already that can work. Obviously this can depend on the nature of the blog post, but even the backgrounds can be easy to figure out. In this photograph, I used my bedding as a background, and all the items I already have in my room, so no additional costs had to be spent. Other things that you could use could be your phone, laptop, watch, or even things like perfume bottles.
When looking at other people's photography, I love when they incorporate different textures. To do this in a really easy way, in this photo I have just used a scarf that I have. I also love when people do it with woollen items and blankets, because it gives the photo such a warm feeling to it.
The last thing that I take into consideration when thinking about blog props to use is the season. When the season changes, sometimes it's nice to get props that express that. One of my favourite times of the year is Christmas, and I love using Christmas decorations, and sweets like candy canes and chocolate coins in my photography to help give it that Christmasy feel!
