YouTube Made Me Buy It

November 02, 2016

To be completely honest,  I am easily persuaded to by beauty products. This is because a) I like having any excuse to shop, and b) I like trying out new products. Over the years I have bought loads of pieces of makeup after hearing people mention it on YouTube. Today, I thought I'd share with you what I've been convinced to buy from YouTube, and if I think they are worth the hype.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

I first got this foundation 2 years ago for Christmas after I dragged my mum and sister into Debenhams on Oxford Street to the Estee Lauder counter. I actually love this foundation, however, sometimes the shade looks fine on me, and other times it looks a bit off. The reason I wanted it was because of its high coverage, and together with the concealer, it works so well together.

Essence I Stage Eyeshadow Base

After British-moved-to-Australia YouTuber, SmileyCitrus, rave about this for months, I finally bought some when Wilko brought Essence into their stores. I like how it covers any imperfections on your eyelids - such as veins - to give you a blank canvas. I'm not really sure if it does help to keep my eyeshadow on longer, but I like the base it gives.

Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter

So many people rave on about this highlighter, so when I saw it in stock, I thought I'd pick it up and test it out.

When you first try it out, the product has some sort of layer over it that is very chalky and not pigmented at all. But once you get rid of that, the product is pigmented and a good highlighter. It is slightly chalky when not blended properly, but if you work it in, it looks beautiful!

MUA Undressed Eyeshadow Palette

I think the first time I heard about this, it was by MissBudgetBeauty on YouTube. It's a dupe for the first naked palette, so I thought I'd try it out as it's only £4.

Some people don't like their palette, I think it may be one of those cases where some people get good quality ones and others not so great. I really like this palette, and would repurchase it over and over again. I haven't ever considered buying the actual Naked palette because I think this is great quality in my mind.

Shades from left to right: 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 12.

MUA Undress Me Too Eyeshadow Palette

So this is the dupe for the Naked Palette 2. Yet again, I really love this palette and wouldn't consider buying the actual Naked palette!

My favourite shades are definitely Devotion, Tranquil, and fiery. They are all glitter shades, and are really pigmented for the cheap price.

Shades from left to right: Wink, Exposed, Dreamy, Fiery, Devotion.

W7 Glocomotion Highlighter

Yet again, there are so many people that constantly rave about this highlighter, especially in testing W7 makeup videos. When making an Amazon order once, I added it to my basket very... definitely an impulse buy!

For a highlighter that cost me under £4, it is good. But I was quite disappointed by it because of how much people rave about it. I feel like it's pigmented until you blend it out. I much prefer the Revolution one and would prefer to buy all the colours in that range than this again..

Maybelline 24 hour Color Tattoo

I think we've all probably heard everyone and there mother's cat talk about this, especially this shade! When I bought it, I was so excited, but I really don't see the hype at all. As a base, I suppose it's okay, but when I bought it, people were raving about how you could just put it on as a quick eye look. But  doing this makes it crease so easy, and also disappear within a minute!

  1. I bought the Maybelline Color Tattoo for the exact same reason!! I actually really love it, I use it on the lid to add to an eye look and it doesn't crease for me at all, different preferences I guess! Great post!

    1. If I set it with something, I don't have any issues with it, it's just when I try and use it by itself! :( Do you prime underneath or set it at all?

    1. I definitely found with mine there was like some weird chalky coating on the top of it... it's so strange! Not sure if it has a purpose on whether it just happens to be there. But as soon as I got rid of it(if you use a big brush to scrape the top layer off) it works perfectly fine for me! I completely agree with the whole eye shadow palette thing, I want so many but I can't justify it... maybe santa will bring me some, hahah! Ooh, I'll head over now, never heard of that brand before!!

  3. I love it so much!! Like there's not another foundation I've tried that I've loved so much! I just love how it gives good coverage but somehow manages not to look cakey!xx
