I was not one of those people who knew what they wanted to do before starting looking at universities, I'm in my second year at the moment and still don't know what job I want when I finish uni. I did three years of a levels in college because I had no idea what I wanted to do, so have actually studied modern history, statistic maths, welsh, photography, psychology, and media studies.
When doing photography and media, I realised I definitely enjoy doing hands on stuff, and I love cameras and editing. So I knew I wanted to go into something creative like that. I finally decided to o journalism after a friend said she saw me writing for magazines when I am older.
I applied to five universities, none which were super close to home as I knew I would go home all the time if I could. To my surprise, all five universities offered me a place and I had a big decision to make.
I really wanted to study in London as it is one of my favourite places, but LSBU didn't have much of a university feel to it when I went for my interview, so I decided against it. The woman who did my group interview at DeMontfort was so rude to me, so that crossed that one off.
So I was left with Huddersfield, Leeds Beckett and UWE. I had visited UWE as I came for an interview, and I had been to Huddersfield as it was were my sister studied, so I had a good idea of what they were like. I kept thinking about it for a week, but I think deep down I knew what I was going to do.
When I came to Bristol for my interview, my uncle (who studied at the same university, and never moved away from Bristol afterwards) took me around the city centre and out for lunch and dinner. I loved it!
I knew I wanted to go to a city because I wanted to push myself to go somewhere different to the small town I come from, and Bristol just had that feel to it that I really liked.
So I chose UWE, and on 7th September 2015, I moved to Bristol.
Want to know when and why the others chose their course and uni?
So nice to read about your decision making process! Thanks for sharing! :)
